Nero, the Police Dog

Time and time again we have had people tell us what a difference teeth cleaning and dental procedures, such as root canals, have made in their pets' lives. Frequently what is assumed to be just aging is lethargy from tooth and mouth pain.

"Nero" is a police dog obtained by the Fresno County Sheriff's Department in 2006. He arrived with four broken canine teeth. The teeth of such a working dog are their tools, their weapons. While "Nero" in his practice work still had the drive to bite, he didn't bite and hold well. Dr. Levin, our board-certified veterinary dentist, did four root canals on "Neros'" broken canine teeth. The following email was sent by Officer Stricker, "Nero's" handler: (see email in Compliments).

On a recent follow-up appointment, Officer Stricker reported that "Nero" was working well and he had even found a murderer. He tracked the perpetrator from the crime scene, taking Officer Stricker over a fence and then under a bush. "Nero" alerted that the criminal was cornered, and when the man refused to surrender, "Nero" was sent in. "Nero" bit the murderer and drug him out where he was arrested. Thank you "Nero" for helping to keep us safe!
